Going to the beach makes so many of us happy, and here's why elements of it make it a naturally healing place:

1. Vitamin D

Our bodies naturally produce Vitamin D when we're exposed to sunlight and when we don't get enough, especially during the Winter months, we can feel down. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium and promote bone growth, reduces your chances of getting the flu and regulates mood-swings.

2. Exfoliating

Sand is nature's natural exfoliant. It helps rid dead skin and leaves you feeling so much softer, which is so much cheaper than an exfoliating treatment at the spa!

3.  The Color Blue

The color blue is associated with peace and tranquility and scientists say it has a calming effect on the psyche. Some have even experienced ocean therapy as a way to help treat PTSD in veterans.

4. Mental Health

Studies show that there are clear links when it comes to living in a coastal area and mental well-being. Being at the beach allows you to detox from the fast-paced and digital world, and press the reset button for yourself, giving both your mind and body a break.

5. Skin

Sea water is full of anti-aging minerals that not only help improve the skin's elasticity like iodine, but also helps cuts, rashes and other ailments to heal faster. Just remember that SPF and that hat to prevent burning.

6. Reduce Stress

Scientists say that regular trips to the beach are one of the best ways to avoid stress and depression. The rhythmic sound of the waves also helps your brain to relax.

7. Lungs

The sea air contains ions that calm your senses and help make you more cheerful, but also contain negative ions that are beneficial to your respiratory system.

You didn't really need another excuse, but be sure to get to the beach and let mother nature work her magic.
