SELAH MARLEY TALKS MODELLING, MUSIC AND METAPHYSICS
October 17, 2017
Meet Selah Marley. She was born into music royalty as the daughter of Lauryn Hill and granddaughter of Bob Marley, but now she's making a name for herself releasing new music and with fashion credits including Chanel and Calvin Klein. Get to know Selah in our exclusive interview below.
Name: Selah Marley.
Describe yourself in 3 words:
Bold. Dynamic. Beautiful.
Where did you grow up?
South Orange, NJ.
What is your nationality?
What do you love about Lola & Lamar?
Oooooh. I love how the pieces are stylish, minimal, & tiny! I'm petite, so it accentuates my body without drowning me in fabric.
How would you describe your style?
Completely dynamic. Some days I feel very chic, some days I feel chill and sporty. Some days I'm a "tomboy" and sometimes I'm a very "girly girl." Almost a little bit extreme, but all expressions of myself.
Who or what are you currently inspired by?
American Honey and Black Swan (films).
How did you get into modelling? Where do you see your career taking you?
I was always interested in taking pictures of myself and one day, was able to meet the right people who pushed that conversation for me. However, I see modeling as a platform for my bigger pursuits. I see myself as an experimental humanitarian.
What brand/label would you love to work with?
I'd love to work with Y-3 because I always loved their clothes when I first got into fashion.
You've also been making music! How would you describe your sound?
Ooooh. Ethereal and airy. Very ambient. More to come!
What does a typical day in the life of Selah look like?
Oh goodness, this definitely changes everyday. It seems like it involves a lot of plane-time lol. Because I have no set schedule, I get to define my own life. Lately, I've been doing a lot of reading. I just got back from spending almost a month in London, so I'm just now getting back into the swing of things.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and with who?
I would travel to the Maldives with my Sisters in Spirit <3
How do you stay fit and healthy?
Lol I'm an extremist when it comes to exercise, so I'm trying to get better at that; but I think I have a lot of muscle memory from when I was younger. I was verrrrry active, doing sports from gymnastics to soccer to ballet, ALL THE TIME. I'm also transitioning into a vegetarian diet because I feel like it's better for my body, so I think that my diet will really help to both maintain and promote my health.
Any beauty secrets?
I always oil my body while I'm still damp, so that the oil can seep in best.
Any hidden talents?
I'm very interested in metaphysics and really enjoy theorising on the nature of the universe.
The biggest lesson you've learned from your parents?
So so so so many. My mother recently told me that as I tap into myself, I will feel more liberated; but I will also receive resistance from the world and it's necessary that I remain resilient to myself.
Favourite song of the moment?
It's actually mine lol. It's called Heart's Desire.
As a woman, what is your greatest superpower?
My intuition. As women, we are naturally in tune with our bodies and emotions due to our biological experiences like menstruation, ovulation, etc., so we're naturally in tune with Earth.
Something most people don't know about you?
I love dancing//movement. I took ballet and African dance for a very long time in my youth, so now it's become one of my favorite forms of expression.
What's next for you?
Good question! We'll see..
Keep up with Selah!
